1. Are poor people more likely to committ suicide than rich people?




Answer: No, money is not a factor when it comes to suicide. Wealthier people can be suicidal, just for different reasons. They dont have the pressure of earning money, but many of them might not have an adult in their life. Or they could have too much stress from trying to live up to their parents expectations.


2. Is it true that if someone has already attempted suicide once, then they won't attempt suicide again?


Answer: No, 50% of teens who attempt suicide once, WILL attempt suicide again.



3. Are girls more prone to becoming suicidal?



Answer: Yes, girls are twice as likely to attempt suicide. however, boys are 4 times as likely for their suicide attempt to succeed. This is because boys use more violent methods, such as guns, when committing suicide. And girls use less violent methods, such as overdosing on pills. Since, shooting yourself tends to be more accurate and effective than overdosing, boy's suicide attempts are more successful.



4.What could influence someone to kill themselves?



Answer: Well, it’s different for everyone, but the main reasons are stress, they believe there’s a romantic image to it, it’s impulsive, they participate in cluster suicides, or they cannot/ do not want to handle life under these circumstances. That doesn’t mean that taking their life is the best option, just that to them it seems like the only way out. Also, suicidal people usually lack the ability to look at the long term perspective. So, they don't see how their actions now could affect everyone and themselves later throughout their life. Also, they have a hard time picturing their depression ever going away.





5. Do races affect the suicide rate?



Answer: Native American’s and Native Canadian’s suicide rate is 1.5-3 times higher. Suicide is also the second leading cause of death in 15-24 year old Native American and Canadians. Unlike, American's, where suicide is the thrid leadin cause of death. Also, during 1997 to 2001, a total of 8,744 Hispanics die from suicide; 7, 439 were males. So male Latino's are more prone to suicide. Many people believe that these races have a higher suicide rate due to racism. That could be a factor, but there is no, one explanation.





6. Is suicide hereditary?



Answer: If someone has a history of suicide in their family, then they’re 8 times more likely to commit suicide. The emotional traits that can lead someone to commit suicide, are able to pass down from one generation to the next.
